Long Bio (325 words)

Born and raised in Manila, the Philippines, jdv plus is LA-based singer, songwriter, and record producer Jaime de Venecia. His stage name combines his initials with plus: meaning "more," or "better." The plus is an emblem of his commitment to continual evolution and growth, both spiritually and artistically.

His emotive brand of pop-oriented R&B submerges you into the space between desire and action, between reflection and confession – where palm trees and massage chairs surround a neon-lit dance floor. Like a nighttime drive, his music relaxes the senses and arouses the mind, fusing reflective lyrics with lush production that draws influence from forward-thinking pop, hip-hop, and R&B.

A classically trained pianist and self-taught guitarist, de Venecia started producing and DJing while studying music at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He taught himself Ableton Live and uploaded tracks to SoundCloud as jdv plus. After his atmospheric songs gained thousands of plays online and he self-released his first album 重量 (weight), he became a resident DJ/performer at venues on campus and opened for acts including Mykki Blanco, Chrome Sparks, and Nguzunguzu.

When back home in Philippines for the winter holidays, he’d play shows around Manila – once drawing a crowd of 200 for a two-hour set at a club. For his senior thesis, he composed his second album empty_mirror and performed the instrumental project live to a filled out show of over 130 people.

Moving to California brought a new, radiant warmth to jdv plus’s sound. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2015, he shifted his focus to developing as a songwriter and singer. He collaborated with four artists in his 6-song EP Advance, released on SoundCloud and Bandcamp in late 2016. His song "Dragonfly" was a semifinalist in 2017's International Songwriting Competition.

jdv plus’s latest single “Forever Good Night” is available on all major streaming platforms. He is currently working on multiple collaborations and side projects, recording a new album, and performing at venues around LA.
